Eastern Mass Senators 2012 (Doherty) are Champions at Jay Peak!!!

            This past weekend, the 12U Eastern Mass Senators (Doherty) traveled to Vermont to compete in the Green Mountain Avalanche Hockey Tournament, held at the beautiful Jay Peak Ski Resort. The Senators dominated the competition, going a perfect 4-0 and capturing the championship in decisive fashion.


The tournament kicked off with a hard-fought battle against the Northern Rhode Island Junior Sentinels. The Sens edged out a 3-2 victory, with Ronan Doherty leading the charge and earning Player of the Game honors for his two crucial assists. Reilly McKenna contributed a goal and set up Gavin Doherty for the game-winning tally, securing the first win of the weekend. Goal scorers included Jacob Finn, Reilly McKenna, and Gavin Doherty, with assists from Ronan Doherty and Reilly McKenna.


In Game 2, the Senators faced off against the NE Stars from Tyngsborough, Massachusetts. Despite a strong effort from the Stars, the Sens emerged victorious with a commanding 6-2 win. Gavin Doherty’s outstanding performance, including two goals, earned him Player of the Game recognition. Other goal scorers included Connor Laing, Jacob Finn, and K.J. Fahlbeck. The defensive unit played a key role, with assists from Tyler Andronaco, Reilly McKenna, and an additional assist from forward Arham Palkhiwala.


The Senators' next challenge was a matchup against the Junior Railers (Dunn) of the Valley Hockey League. The Sens dominated from start to finish, securing a 6-0 victory. Goaltender Zach Stroud posted a shutout, while Connor Laing put on a spectacular show, netting his first tournament hat trick and earning Player of the Game honors. Additional goals were scored by Braden Nee, Arham Palkhiwala, and Derek Burke. Assists in this game came from Connor Laing, Jacob Finn, Helen Hernandez, Braden Nee, and Noah Belmont.


In the title game, the Senators came out firing on all cylinders, determined to claim the championship. Arham Palkhiwala delivered a strong offensive presence, notching a goal, while Derek Burke added his first of the tournament. Jacob Finn had a standout performance, scoring twice, including an incredible end-to-end rush, which secured him Player of the Game honors. Ronan Doherty lit the lamp twice, including a brilliant shorthanded goal after stealing the puck and sending it top shelf. Helen Hernandez put the finishing touches on the championship effort with a highlight-reel goal, sniping the puck bar downski from her off-wing. Assists in the final game came from Gavin Doherty.


With an emphatic 6-1 victory in the final, the 12U Eastern Mass Senators (Doherty) celebrated a weekend of teamwork, skill, and determination. Congratulations to the Sens on an incredible tournament run!
